With Porter having started the opening win over Malta and Dowman starting in the win over Latvia, Wednesday’s match against Sweden was the first time both of them made the lineup together.

Porter kept a clean sheet in his first appearance of the break, but he couldn’t repeat that feat this time, with Sweden taking an early lead.

England rallied and ultimately won 4-2, with Dowman scoring the fourth of his team’s goals. Dowman had also scored against Malta, so he ended the break with two goals in just 193 minutes on the pitch.

Both players have now returned to Arsenal to continue playing for the u18s.

As for what the result means, England have topped their group with three consecutive wins, and they’ll progress to the second round of qualifying.

The team will be drawn into another group of four, with only the winners of each group progressing to the final tournament.

Qualifying Round 2 will be played in spring 2025, with the exact details unconfirmed at this stage.
