Derby County have been active in the summer transfer ahead of the new Championship campaign getting underway this weekend.

John Eustace guided the Rams to a 19th-place finish in the table in the previous campaign having joined from Blackburn Rovers in February, with the side ending up just one point clear of the relegation zone.

Patrick Agyemang, Rhian Brewster, Carlton Morris and Andreas Weimann have all arrived to bolster the team’s attacking options.

Derby will have plenty of players to choose from for their frontline, having previously been quite light in that area, which could lead to some selection headaches in the coming season.

When asked who the main starting striker should be next season, FLW’s Derby fan pundit, Shaun Woodward, suggested Carlton Morris and Patrick Agyemang will fight for the number nine role when everyone is fit.

He also claimed that Andreas Weimann and Rhian Brewster will occupy the central role behind the striker, if Eustace opts for a 4-2-3-1 formation.

“So, when they’re all fit, we’ve probably got five, maybe six attacking players across that front four,” Woodward told Football League World.

“If he plays the 4-2-3-1, I think right now you’d have Morris as the focal point, and then you’ve got Brewster or Weimann playing just behind him.

“I think both of those could play as the central person in that three behind, or potentially on one of the wings.

“But I do think, at the moment, it will be Morris leading the line, with Weimann or Brewster behind him, and then when Agyemang is back fit, you’d have Morris and Agyemang fighting it out for that focal point up top.

“I’d probably put Salvesen down as a third choice centre-forward, even fourth if Brewster is going to be a central figure. It gives us loads of options and loads of possibilities for what formation we’re going to play.

“It’s exciting times, I just hope Eustace can fit them all in and keep them happy.”

Derby will begin their Championship campaign with a trip to face Stoke City on 9 August.

Eustace will enjoy a wealth of attacking options at Derby

Derby scored 48 goals in 46 league games last year, and their top scorer, Jerry Yates, managed just 10 to his name.

Having a wealth of attacking options should help improve that figure over the next campaign, and should alleviate any injury crisis concerns with the level of depth they have.

The additions of Morris, Weimann and Brewster bring a lot of Championship experience, and Agyemang will be able to offer something different in attack.
