With Oliver Glasner and Cesc Fabregas set to stay as managers of Crystal Palace and Como respectively, two new names have emerged in RB Leipzig’s search for their next head coach.
Kicker reports that Ole Werner and Alexander Blessin are the latest candidates identified by RB Leipzig to succeed Marco Rose as the club’s head coach. Werner recently left his role at Werder Bremen despite one-year remaining on his contract but was relieved of his duties after informing the club that he would not be extending his deal beyond 2026.
Blessin meanwhile worked as a youth coach at RB Leipzig between 2012 and 2020 before managerial positions at KV Oostende and Genoa. It was then Belgian side Union SG where Blessin made a name having led the Brussels side to a runners-up place as well as the 2024 Belgian Cup. He then succeeded Fabian Hürzeler following St. Pauli’s promotion to the Bundesliga, and kept the Hamburg side in the top flight.
Kicker note that while Glasner remains a candidate, the €20m fee that Crystal Palace would expect is well out of their budget after the Saxony club failed to secure European football next season. Both Werner and Blessin would remain cheaper options than Glasner and Fabregas.
