2025 Sheffield United signing has been Bramall Lane flop - "I would be moving him on"

Sheffield United have been told to sell Tahith Chong in the summer transfer window, but they could struggle to cash in on the former Man United man.

Chris Wilder has plenty of key decisions to make in the summer transfer market, as he vies to oversee a rebuild at Sheffield United.

The Blades sit 15th in the Championship table with just one game remaining, despite beginning the season with aspirations of clinching promotion back to the Premier League.

Wilder's men have endured successive defeats at the hands of Lancashire duo Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End, but will hope to end the campaign on a high when they travel to Derby County this Saturday.

However, defeating the Rams is a task that is easier said than done, as John Eustace's men are still able to land a play-off spot - whilst United are playing for nothing but pride, and to potentially impress Wilder ahead of a summer of change at Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United told to sell 2025 signing - he's made no Bramall Lane impact

Wilder has revealed that Sheffield United are open to selling Gus Hamer and Sydie Peck this summer, which indicates the scale of the rebuild he wants to oversee at Bramall Lane.

The South Yorkshire outfit have still struggled for consistency in the Championship since the 58-year-old returned to the dugout following Ruben Selles' woeful spell in charge.

Meanwhile, Football League World asked our United fan pundit, Jimmy from the Blades Ramble YouTube channel, if he could see his club moving Tahith Chong on this summer.

Jimmy told FLW: "Chong, would we move him on? This is just my opinion, but I would be moving him on if the opportunity arises. I think the problem will be, as it will be with several of these players in the squad, who's going to take him?

"We'd have to take a significant loss on him, which I think we'd have to be prepared to do anyway. But he's also on big money, and I'm not sure that he could command that wage anywhere else.

"So, ultimately, we would be able to move him on, but (at) a significant financial disadvantage to ourselves. At that stage, you have to work out whether it's worth keeping him, whether it's just as a backup, or rotation.

"It's one of the signings that hasn't worked, so if we can move on, I'm sure we would, but it's not quite that simple, unfortunately."

Tahith Chong has been a major disappointment for Sheffield United

Chong enjoyed a top-class football education in the Manchester United academy and went on to make 16 senior appearances for the Red Devils before having loan spells with Werder Bremen, Club Brugge, and Birmingham City.

The winger joined Blues permanently in 2022 and notched four goals and five assists during the 2022/23 Championship season.

Those exploits convinced Luton Town to acquire his services ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, and he scored four top-flight goals for the Hatters.

The former Man United youngster went on to score just two goals for the Hatters during the following Championship season, but perhaps he can be excused for that, as he was operating as part of a poor Kenilworth Road outfit who suffered relegation to League One.

However, his time at Sheffield United, who he joined last summer, has been nothing short of woeful, as he has struggled for a starting spot in Wilder's lineup and has failed to score in 20 league appearances.

According to Capology estimates, the Curacao international is earning £25,000 a week at Bramall Lane, so the Blades could struggle to move him on this summer, as alluded to by Jimmy, but even if the Blades have to pay a portion of his wages to loan him out, then it may be a decision worth making.
