France and Senegal landed in Group I during last night’s 2026 World Cup draw. The upcoming clash between these two sides is already generating plenty of buzz. Pape Gueye can’t wait.
Their last World Cup showdown dates back to 2002. France will face Senegal in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. Speaking to RMC, Senegal international Pape Gueye shared his pride at the prospect of challenging Les Bleus.
"It’s a special match. We expected to qualify for the World Cup, but we didn’t know we’d be drawn against France. It’s a source of personal pride for me. I was born in France. There’s also the history from 2002. We’ll prepare well. 2002? That was a huge match. We were young then, but it meant a lot to the country," Gueye revealed.
As a reminder, in 2002, France was knocked out in the group stage after losing to the Lions of Teranga (0-1) in their opening match.
