2026 World Cup qualifiers: Burkina Faso Stallions return to the 4 August Stadium
The Burkina Faso national team camp kicked off for the current FIFA international window on September 1 in Ouagadougou. On this occasion, the Stallions set foot on the turf of the 4 August Stadium after a long four-year absence.
Burkina Faso's first match is scheduled for September 4 against Djibouti, part of the seventh round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The camp started quietly on the morning of September 1, with players arriving gradually. The following day, Brama Traoré's squad was complete and held their first training session at the 4 August Stadium in Ouagadougou since 2021.
It was a historic moment for some players who have become key figures in the squad but had never played in the legendary Stallions' fortress. Among them was star striker Dango Ouattara, who recently joined Brentford in the Premier League, and Cyriaque Irié Kalou of German side Freiburg. The latter expressed his delight in an interview with the Burkina Faso Football Federation:
We thank the authorities who made the effort so we can dream with our fans in Ouagadougou. We are extremely excited to play here in front of our supporters.
The first test for Bertrand Traoré and his teammates at the 4 August Stadium will be on September 9 against Egypt. This crucial clash could determine Burkina Faso's fate in the qualifiers, and a positive result is essential to close the five-point gap to leaders Egypt.
Before that, Brama Traoré and his players will travel on September 3 to Guinea-Bissau to face Djibouti at 16:00 GMT.
