After previously threatening to withdraw from Eurovision if Israel took part, and following incidents at the Vuelta due to the Israel-Premier Tech team, Spain has once again issued a new warning. The spokesperson for the Socialist group in Congress, Patxi López, indicated that La Roja would be ready to boycott the 2026 World Cup if Israel qualifies for the tournament.
"We will assess the situation at the right time. (…) What we want is for people to realize that if Israeli teams cannot take part in sporting events or Eurovision, some are starting to open their eyes. Because ours are wide open and do not tolerate what they see, which is why we cannot and will not remain silent." he stated, as reported by RMC Sport.
It should be noted that Israel is currently third in its 2026 World Cup qualifying group, trailing Norway and Italy.
