2030 World Cup final moves further away from Spain

FIFA’s decision to stage its March congress in Rabat has been read as a nod to co-host Morocco, currently seen as the leading candidate to host the 2030 World Cup final, nudging the showpiece away from Spain.

Before that, Gianni Infantino will attend Sunday’s 2026 decider between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. RMC reports that Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, floated by some as a potential challenger, has no intention of leaving Paris Saint-Germain to run for FIFA, according to people close to him.

FIFA will hold its presidential vote in March in Rabat, with Infantino already working quietly on re-election. The Swiss could stand unopposed, as no figures from the 211 member associations have stepped forward so far.

UEFA has been sounding out whether any of its members would take on Infantino, with relations between the bodies strained and the European confederation keen to install one of its own.

Potential contenders span low-profile operators with clout in global football and prominent names. Al-Khelaïfi’s profile has gained traction given his role at Paris Saint-Germain, close ties to UEFA, influence through the European Club Association and reach within the Asian confederation via Qatar.
