Rodri had originally been ruled out as a transfer option by Real Madrid, but after his impressive performances for Spain during the 2026 World Cup, the decision has been made to sign him this summer. The club knows that a cut-price deal can be agreed due to the 30-year-old having less than 12 months remaining on his contract, although Manchester City are determined to ensure that their star midfielder stays.

However, it is looking less and less likely that Rodri will remain at Man City, given that he does not want to sign a new contract. He’s also already agreed personal terms with Real Madrid, and as per Sergio Valentín (via MD), the Bernabeu club are prepared to pay a fee in the region of €50-60m to sign him now, rather than wait to secure his services as a free agent in 2027.

Man City want €80m to sell Rodri

Real Madrid consider this to be a good price for a player with less than a year remaining on his contract, although it will not be enough for Man City. The report notes that the Premier League club are asking for €80m to approve a sale, which is significant above the valuation that Bernabeu bosses have.

Real Madrid will be relaxed about the situation, knowing that they already have an agreement with Rodri. They will hope that Man City’s asking price comes down as the summer goes on, although there is no guarantee that it does.
