Both clubs have come up short in Premier League title races with Man City during the nine-year period in question

Manchester United supporters have come up with a new chant, taunting Liverpool fans in the process as both clubs await Manchester City’s punishment.

As first reported by The Athletic on September 25, Man City have been found guilty of all but one of the 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League over breaches of its financial regulations.

The verdict, which was delivered by an independent commission following an investigation and legal process spanning several years, has sparked a massive debate on social media in regards to what the severity of City’s potential punishment should be.

The idea of stripping Man City of their Premier League titles during the nine-year period between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons of which the 115 alleged FFP breaches cover has been floated around by rival fans.

Particularly Man United supporters after reflecting on two runners-up finishes to Man City in the 2011-12 and 2017-18 Premier League seasons.

In any potential scenario where United are retrospectively awarded those two title wins, it would put them on 22 top-flight league titles, crucially moving them one clear of Liverpool who would move on to 21 thanks to their 2013-14 position.

Clearly excited about the possibility, albeit unlikely, of adding two more league titles to the trophy cabinet, some United fans have suggested a new chant to debut against Tottenham after the international break.

Despite this, it must be noted that a decision on the sanctions has not yet been made and Man City - who deny the charges - are expected to appeal the verdict.

While the stripping of titles is a possible sanction for Man City, any punishment would be determined in accordance with the Premier League’s rules and could range from a substantial points deduction to a suspension.

In the most serious circumstances, it could even mean expulsion from the league.
