Marvin Ducksch's performances at St. Andrew's are already attracting transfer suitors

Birmingham City's season of inconsistency continued on Saturday as Chris Davies' side played out a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.

After ending a three-game losing streak in the Championship with a 1-0 success over Queens Park Rangers three days beforehand, Blues missed the chance to keep pace with those looking to break into the play-off places at the end of the season.

As a result of their stalemate with the Blades - who are currently in a similar boat after Chris Wilder's initial turnaround back at Bramall Lane - Davies' men are now seven points behind sixth-placed Wrexham with eight matches of their campaign to go, whilst the Red Dragons also have a game in hand.

Despite being in a position which the majority of newly-promoted sides from League One would have almost certainly taken before the season got underway in August, the ambition set out by ownership group, Knighthead Capital Management, and the subsequent spending sprees across both transfer windows has only increased the levels of expectation in this part of the West Midlands.

As a result, Bluenoses are certainly split in their opinion of Davies and the current squad, with some resigned to the fact that their first real promotion charge to the Premier League may have to wait until next season.

If that is to be the case, then another summer of potential turnover regarding the playing squad could be in the offing. However, that may also see some current high-profile names depart B9.

One of the many signings made by Blues after their record-breaking promotion last season came in the form of German striker, Marvin Ducksch.

The former Werder Bremen ace, who has two caps for 'Die Mannschaft' under his belt, was signed for a reported £1.75m on a three-year contract, providing a wealth of top-level experience and competition for the likes of Jay Stansfield and Kyogo Furuhashi.

After a slow start to life at St. Andrew's - which was largely impacted by injury - the attacker has proven to be a real bright spark in a mixed campaign for Birmingham.

Having waited until November 22nd for his first goals against Norwich City, the 32-year-old has now overtaken the aforementioned Stansfield as the club's leading scorer for the season thus far, netting 11 times in 32 appearances across all competitions.

He did so with a stunning free-kick on Saturday afternoon, but less than 24 hours later, it was claimed by German publication, BILD, that Ducksch could be set for yet another summer transfer.

A report has stated that two Bundesliga sides have lodged inquiries over a permanent or loan swoop for the forward after expressing an interest in the man who earns an ESTIMATED salary of £25,000 per week in B9 in the winter transfer window.

It has also been claimed that La Liga side, Real Sociedad and Greek outfit, AEK Athens, are interested in a summer move for Ducksch, as well as teams in the MLS.

Birmingham City will hope to retain Marvin Ducksch amid transfer interest

Given his impact in recent months, Blues will hope to retain Ducksch's services ahead of next season.

Whilst the striker isn't always fully involved in games, he has proven that he can step up with moments of quality, which was certainly the case on Saturday.

It also remains to be seen whether the club would make a profit on his services given his age, albeit Ducksch would still have two years left to run on his contract.
