Former West Ham player Lucas Paqueta has claimed Chelsea tried to sign him but he wanted to go back to Brazil.
The Blues were expected to be quiet this month, but their plans changed and they are trying to bring in a centre back before deadline day.
Chelsea also looked at brining in short term cover in midfield, but that now appears unlikely, and full focus appears to be on trying to get a deal for done Rennes centre back Jeremy Jacquet.
Chelsea are also thought to be looking for another attacker, and are short of cover for Cole Palmer, following the departure of Facundo Buonanotte.
Enzo Fernandez has been used higher up the pitch in recent weeks, but it’s an area which certainly needs addressing in the summer.

However, it appears the Blues were trying to do just that, and Paqueta has claimed Chelsea tried to sign him before he left West Ham.
“Tottenham called, Chelsea called, and the funny thing is that Tatá (my agent) called all excited and said: ‘Chelsea is calling, they’re going to make an offer,'” he said in an interview on Flamengo TV.
“I replied: ‘Okay, but what about Flamengo?
Whilst Chelsea are trying to get a deal done for Jacquet, they are also hoping to offload Tyrique George and Axel Disasi.
George isn’t part of Liam Rosenior’s plans and Everton are the latest club to express an interest in signing him on loan.

Disasi is reportedly close to joining West Ham on loan, but Roma and Lyon are thought to be rivalling the Hammers for the centre back.
Certainly in Disasi’s case Chelsea would prefer a permanent exit, but it’s unclear if that’s the same for George in this window.
