FC Barcelona are already working on the future of several players whose contracts are nearing their end, and one of the cases currently being discussed internally is that of Danish defender Andreas Christensen.

The 29-year-old centre back, who is currently sidelined with injury, is one of the players whose contract with Barcelona expires on June 30. Along with Robert Lewandowski and Wojciech Szczęsny, he is among the players whose immediate future at the club still needs to be clarified.

Despite his ongoing injury layoff, negotiations between the player and the Catalan side have already begun. Christensen’s agent, Simon Oliveira, held a meeting last Wednesday with Barcelona sporting director Deco at a hotel near Camp Nou.

During this meeting, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona presented the defender with an offer to extend his contract for two more years. However, the proposed deal includes a significantly reduced salary compared to his current wages as the club continues to manage its financial structure.

Christensen’s priority remains to continue at Barcelona, a club he joined in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer from Chelsea. The Danish international and his family are said to be very comfortable in Catalunya, which makes staying at the club an attractive option for him.

Nevertheless, the defender still enjoys a strong interest in the transfer market despite his injury situation. Several clubs across Europe have reportedly shown interest in signing him, while teams from Saudi Arabia are also monitoring his situation closely.

For now, the Danish defender’s main focus remains on recovering fully from his injury and returning to action before the end of the season. The club still values his versatility, defensive intelligence, and attitude.

Thus, he will have to carefully consider all the offers on the table, and it remains to be seen whether he will still be donning the Barcelona colors next season.
