La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Thursday been afforded a fresh blow on the personnel front.
The subject of injury woes has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain’s capital over the course of the last 12 hours.
This comes after a highly-regarded member of the club’s academy setup was dealt a considerable personal blow.
After playing his part in Real’s friendly meeting with AC Milan in the early hours of Thursday, César Palacios was put through a round of medical scans, for a knee problem.
And as much gave rise to confirmation that the 19-year-old has suffered an ACL injury, ruling him out for the long-term.
Safe to say, then, that the last thing which those of a Blancos persuasion would have wanted to hear of was another fitness problem being revealed in Carlo Ancelotti’s ranks.
But precisely that, a short time ago, was indeed revealed.
Like teammate Palacios, young attacker Álvaro Rodríguez was introduced off the bench against Milan earlier today, only to be forced into an ensuing exit from the action.
And an insight into precisely why has this afternoon arrived.
As per a report from The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana:
‘Initial tests indicate that Álvaro Rodríguez has a severe sprained ankle. He is expected to return with César Palacios to Spain.’
