Though they didn’t end the 2023/24 campaign on top of the Premier League table and they currently sit quite a few points behind league leaders Liverpool, Arsenal won a greater percentage of their matches in 2024 than any other team.
In total, the Gunners managed 85 points from their 36 games, the same number of points as Liverpool achieved in 37 matches. Given Arsenal had a goal difference of 64 compared to Liverpool’s 50, Mikel Arteta’s side had the edge despite playing fewer games.
As a result, it was no surprise to see WhoScored picking a few Arsenal players for their Team of the Year for 2024.

WhoScored’s Ben McAleer explained the picks, saying of Gabriel that the defender was “a vital cog in [Arsenal’s] resolute machine”. The writer added that the centre-back was “hugely influential at the other end of the pitch” with his six headed goals.
On Saka, McAleer pointed out that the winger was “arguably the most consistent performer in the division”, with involvements in 28 Premier League goals and high rankings for shots, key passes, and successful dribbles.
As for Havertz, McAleer explained that Havertz’s 16 league goals and his physical presence in winning the league’s fifth-most aerial duels earned him a spot in the 2024 team.

Arsenal could point to a number of other strong performers in 2024, most notably David Raya and William Saliba, who also played key roles in Arsenal’s excellent defensive record. Martin Odegaard also impressed when available, but perhaps his injury counted against him here.
As for the other three, it’s nice for them to get some recognition, but they’ll be focused on trying to translate their 2024 form into trophies in the coming months. And on getting fit, in Bukayo Saka’s case.
