Espérance begins its moves ahead of the winter mercato

Espérance de Tunis is planning to bolster its squad with new signings in anticipation of the second half of the 2025-2026 football season.
The Tunisian capital club is looking to address some weaknesses before the serious phase starts in both domestic and continental competitions.
The Red and Yellow currently sit third in the domestic league, three points behind leaders Stade Tunisien, and have taken a major step toward qualifying for the CAF Champions League group stage. CAF Champions League.
In the following report, Foot Africa highlights three positions that deserve reinforcement during the upcoming winter transfer window.
Espérance is struggling in domestic league matches due to competition rules that require them to field only four foreign players.
As a result, the technical staff is considering temporarily dropping Nigerian Onuche Ogbelu from domestic matches, preferring to rely on a quartet consisting of Algerians Mohamed Amine Tougai and Youcef Belaïli, alongside Brazilian Yan Sasse and Frenchman Florian Danho.
Accordingly, the club will need to sign an additional local player in the defensive midfield position to implement its strategy.
Box-to-box midfielder
The Tunisian champions lack a midfielder capable of making a difference in tough matches with decisive goals and assists.
Despite the significant progress in the physical and technical performance of Houssem Teka, his attacking contributions remain average.
It is likely that Algerian sporting director Yazid Mansouri will focus on the dual-nationality market to find a player who can fulfill this vital role.
Espérance de Tunis currently has only one player in the playmaker role: Chihab Jebali, who joined the team during the last winter mercato.
Jebali's performances have notably declined this season compared to his displays in the second half of the 2024-2025 campaign.
The Grand Old Club of Tunisia needs to revive competition in this position to boost the team’s attacking output.
