The Millers are currently in the midst of a 10-game winless run in League One

The pressure is being cranked up on Rotherham United manager Matt Hamshaw after the Millers suffered a seventh straight league defeat at the hands of Stockport County last Saturday.

Rotherham have not won in League One since November 8th, picking up just three points in the last ten games, and are now staring down the barrel of a potential return to League Two for the first time since the 2012/13 campaign.

The South Yorkshire side are five points removed from safety, and many critics believe that the Rotherham-born boss must be relieved of his duties before that gap worsens. As it stands, though, Matt Hamshaw looked ready to take on the upcoming home games against AFC Wimbledon and Northampton Town, where wins will be vital to stay in touch with those ahead.

However, that's not to say that, as this dreadful run continues, there won't be conversations about a managerial change.

If the losing streak carries on over the next week, here are three names Rotherham should consider replacing Matt Hamshaw in the New York Stadium's dugout.

Noel Hunt

This is arguably the least inspiring of the three, as Noel Hunt was sacked by Reading only three months ago, and since then, the Royals have undergone a huge transformation into a side flirting with the top six under Leam Richardson.

However, the 43-year-old proved in his first full-time senior managerial role that he could provide results despite difficult circumstances, and the near-year that he spent at the Leasing.Com Stadium was full of them.

Hunt was thrown in at the deep end after Ruben Selles, who had overperformed with a young side reeling from the final months of the Dai Yongge regime, departed to Hull City last December, and he maintained their play-off credentials until the final day of last season.

Then, as the club underwent a transition period once Rob Couhig completed the takeover, it was always going to be difficult to maintain that performance level.

Hunt has shown that he can operate on tight budgets and with a side with their backs against the wall, and therefore could be a good appointment at Rotherham given their current situation.

Darren Ferguson

Like Hunt, Darren Ferguson was relieved of his duties at fellow League One side Peterborough United earlier this season, and the Posh have since gone on to better things under Luke Williams.

Ferguson actually left the Western Holmes Stadium with Peterborough bottom, but that shouldn't tarnish his reputation as a very good League One-level manager.

Posh were a side stripped of their talents over the summer, and were left with a squad that lacked in quality compared to the other sides that Ferguson has had success with. In the end, it seemed that the club just needed a new direction, and therefore, so did the Scotsman.

The last club that the 53-year-old managed outside of Peterborough was also in South Yorkshire, and with Doncaster Rovers, he helped them to promotion out of League Two in his first full season at the club, following relegation the year prior.

There are plenty of parallels there, and while there's no doubt that the focus currently is on survival in League One, if a return to the fourth tier is on the cards, Ferguson would be well apt to get them back up as soon as possible.

Alan Sheehan

It was evident that, for Alan Sheehan, a Championship job to kickstart his managerial career may have been a step too far, and once the feel-good factor of a positive interim run wore off, Swansea were quickly sinking in the second tier.

However, there's no doubting that the 39-year-old is a bright, young manager, and if Rotherham wanted to go down a project route at this stage, Sheehan could be their man.

And it's not like the Irishman would need time to bed in, like in other, more typical project hires. Sheehan has already shown that he can come in and make an immediate impact, as shown in the latter stages of last season, where his Swansea side was one of the best in the Championship with one of the better defences.

That did come in a relatively low-pressure environment, as the Swans were not in any real relegation danger, but it's not something that should be overlooked.

Rotherham have been leaking goals recently, so if Sheehan can come in and stabilise that while bringing some good feeling and optimism back to the New York Stadium, the Millers could have themselves a manager who could lead them back to the Championship.

But the focus right now is on League One survival, and Sheehan may be the best option to go for if the higher-ups do pull the plug on Matt Hamshaw.
