There has been plenty of fallout from that since and the spotlight will be on the Swans hierarchy in the summer when they get the next opportunity to strengthen the squad.
And, it appears the recruitment team are already looking ahead, as reports have claimed that Swansea are rivalling Watford as they look to sign right wing-back Bryan Reynolds.
The 21-year-old is contracted to Roma but is spending the campaign on loan at Westerlo in Belgium and here we outline THREE reasons why the Swans should do all they can to win the battle for Reynolds…
They need to strengthen that area
Firstly, it’s an area that the club need to improve.
It’s believed that Martin wanted to bring in additional wing-back and Reynolds would fit the bill in terms of suiting the style of play that the boss adopts, as he’s athletic, good on the ball and will provide an outlet down the flank.
So, he would certainly improve the Swans side and could potentially become an important part of the team.

He is a long-term option
Next, at 21, Reynolds is someone who is ideal for the future.
Of course, the focus has to be on improving the team for now, where Reynolds can help, but we know that Swansea look for players with a sell-on value and under Martin’s guidance the American could get even better.
He would appear to be the perfect profile for Swansea.
He should be available
Finally, Reynolds is obviously going to struggle to get in the Roma team as Jose Mourinho is building a squad that is challenging to get into the Champions League.
Therefore, realistically, the player isn’t likely to have a future and the Italians will be open to a sale in the summer.
That should make negotiating easier and after a struggling January, it’s a deal that should be able to get done quickly.
