With Chris Wilder having to inherit a side off the back of a transfer window he didn't have any influence in, changes in January are inevitable.

Sheffield United have seen a small improvement in performances since Wilder took charge for a third time at Bramall Lane, but in his four games so far, the Blades have picked up just three points.

Those who expected a stark change in results when the fan favourite boss headed back to the dugout have been proven wrong, but perhaps those fans were feeling too optimistic, as this Sheffield United side is completely different, even compared to the one which lost in the play-off final just five months ago.

Wilder has stated that he's sending a document to the owners about January plans already, stating that, "I know who takes us forward, and who doesn't," indicating a rather ruthless approach, but perhaps a necessary one, given that this winter window could be the difference between relegation or not.

Jimmy, the host of the Blades Ramble and FLW's Sheffield United fan pundit, has listed a few players who he feels may be let go in the coming months.

When asked about Chris Wilder's plans to send a document to the owners ahead of the January transfer window, Jimmy didn't seem too shocked.

"That's not surprising at all, to be honest," he said. "He hasn't had the window himself, so it's no surprise that he doesn't fancy some of these players.

"I think it will probably lead into who is up for the fight, because we're in a relegation battle, and if we look at individuals, you're looking at those who came in to play under Ruben Selles but haven't under Chris Wilder.

"Those first few Selles signings, like Louie Barry and Tyler Bindon, they're probably not going to be in his plans going forward."

Bindon and Barry were two of the first players through the door at Bramall Lane this summer, and the duo had history playing under Ruben Selles - Bindon at Reading and then Barry for a short time last season at Hull City.

Barry started the first five Championship games (Selles' entire tenure as Blades boss) whilst Bindon started the first four. Since then, Bindon hasn't seen the pitch, whilst Barry has come off the bench in two of the last four, and was an unused sub in the other two.

Clearly, the two aren't favoured by Wilder, and two loanees will likely be sent back to their parent clubs in January. However, he also believes that Ben Godfrey could be sent back to Atalanta, too.

"Ben Godfrey's away with personal issues at the moment, but we seem to have an established back three now, so whether he'd fit in long-term or not is yet to be seen," Jimmy continued.

"It'll be interesting to see where he fits if he is available because his wages are huge, so he'd be a very expensive substitute. Could we spend that better elsewhere? Maybe so.

"So maybe those three will be looked at in January."

Godfrey started the first game of Wilder's third stint, but as alluded to by Jimmy, missed the last three games due to personal reasons. Ben Mee, Japhet Tanganga and Mark McGuinness have started all three games since.

The 27-year-old is estimated to be earning a whopping £75,000 per week, £40,000 more than anyone else in the Sheffield United squad. If he isn't in Wilder's plans, it may be smart to cut ties in January.

Sheffield United need to get this January transfer window right

It's evident that the Blades did not have a good summer, and simply bringing back Chris Wilder hasn't had as desired effect as perhaps once hoped in his opening month back at the club.

If the results don't start to come soon, then the focus will turn to the January transfer window, where Sheffield United must have a better one than this past summer.

Those who departed, such as Anel Ahmedhodzic and Vini Souza, haven't been properly replaced, although the new-look Blades defence is starting to come into its own a little more.

Regardless, that'll be step one. Then, it'll all be about bringing in the players who Chris Wilder believes can get his side out of this current rot, and then push on back to where they need to be next season.
