FLW Fan Pundit Callum Burgess speculates as to whether Tammer Bany will ever contribute regularly for West Bromwich Albion.

West Bromwich Albion are looking very strong this season, and as though they may well be challenging for at least the top eight and the play-off places in the Championship.

After a turbulent few years, which included a relegation battle for much of last season before being steered clear by then-interim boss James Morrison, West Brom are in a much more positive position this time around.

Morrison led Albion clear with impressive performances and results in the final couple of months of last season, and the former Baggies midfielder is now getting them to look like a real force in the second-tier.

Aune Heggebo scored the only goal of the game as Albion defeated Derby County by a goal to nil this midweek, lifting them to the top-of-the-table with four victories, a draw and just one defeat in their opening six matches of the campaign.

Heggebo is one of a few star attackers that have flourished this season, alongside summer signing Jimmy-Jay Morgan – but one that they finally need to see more of is Tammer Bany.

Tammer Bany could still contribute for West Brom despite luckless year-and-a-half

Mid-way through the 2024-25 season, West Brom purchased Tammer Bany for a fairly hefty fee of £3.3 million from Danish outfit Randers.

However, the Jordan international attacker has managed to make just eight appearances for the West Midlands outfit in the Championship and questions remain whether he will ever regularly contribute for the club given his fitness issues.

FLW’s West Brom Fan Pundit, Callum Burgess, has suggested there is a possibility that Bany may well eventually show his quality – and that is needed given the outlay spent on him.

Callum told FLW: “James Morrison has been clear in his press conferences that Tammer Bany is following a very strict training plan in order to reach a position where he is finally able to contribute to Albion.

“If he is able to finally and consistently stay match fit for us, then he will finally be able to show why Albion did spend £3 million-plus on him last year.

“I think that he really needs to get to a position where Bany has got all the setbacks out of his way and where he is now finally able to contribute to the team, because I think that there has to be a reason as to why the scouting team flagged him up as someone who Albion should bring into the club as a matter of urgency.

“I think that he could be in a position where he can contribute soon, but he definitely needs to make the most of that opportunity when it comes.”

Over the summer, West Brom left strikers Josh Maja and Daryl Dike go with the latter having also previously signed for a relatively sizable fee before injury problems plagued the entirety of his time at The Hawthorns.

Heggebo is supported up-front by Morgan as well as summer signing Barney Stewart from Falkirk, and wider options such as Mikey Johnston, Harry Whitwell, Kareem Tunde and perhaps the biggest star right now in Isaac Price.

The quality of Albion’s squad is impressive and there is a belief that they can sustain their strong start across the season, but the depth of the squad remains quite thin, especially in comparison to some of their likely fellow promotion challengers.

That is where Tammer Bany getting himself match fit is crucial in order to provide much-needed depth and repay some of that fee that Albion signed him for, which was fairly surprising anyway, given a record of just two goals in 21 appearances for Randers.

Will Tammer Bany actually make an impact at West Brom?

Prior to his time with Randers, Bany had previously only ever played in the Danish second-tier when at B93, where he scored 13 goals in 61 league games.

He clearly showed something at Randers though to earn a move to the Championship, and he was playing a supporting role mostly behind Mohamed Toure - who's gone on to do fantastic things for Norwich City so far since his January 2026 move to Norfolk.

Bany made the bench against Burnley, Middlesbrough and Charlton Athletic earlier this season, coming off the bench for ten minutes against Newcastle United in the EFL Cup, but fitness concerns are going to continue to persist.

For both his own sake as well as West Brom’s, from a footballing and financial point of view, he needs to become a contributor sooner rather than later, or else Bany could find himself on the chopping block.
