35 people were arrested on Friday night in the greater Paris area around the Coupe de France final at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, with 26 held in custody, the Paris police prefecture said.

Those detained were mainly held over possession of pyrotechnics, carrying prohibited weapons, assault and verbal abuse. Four officers were slightly injured.

On Thursday evening, the night before the final between RC Lens and OGC Nice, disorder broke out in Paris’s 10th arrondissement involving about 100 Nice supporters. After a walk along the Canal Saint-Martin, a large brawl on the Quai de Valmy left six people injured, one seriously.

Police intervened, arresting 65 people who were placed in custody on suspicion of taking part in a group intent on committing violence. Officers seized bladed and improvised weapons, along with balaclavas and hard-knuckle gloves.

The fixture was classed high risk because of animosity between Nice and PSG supporters, and 2,200 police and gendarmes were deployed. No major incident was recorded at the final whistle, as Lens won 3-1 to lift the Coupe de France for the first time.
