A slice of 1990s grassroots football returns in a Yorkshire Evening Post archive gallery of West Yorkshire League team photos. Clubs from Leeds, Wakefield and beyond are captured across the divisions.
yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk notes that the league even counted a Premier League referee among its ranks, while Mick Stoddart was a familiar man in black throughout that era.
The collection showcases sides from across the decade and the league’s different tiers, preserving a local football tapestry from that period.
Teams featured include Burmantofts Amateurs, Mount St Mary's, Armley Athletic, Ossett Common Rovers, Swillington Miners Welfare and Eastmoor. Headingley Rangers, Whitkirk Wanderers, Barwick and Knaresborough Town also appear.
The photographs are sure to evoke memories for a generation of footballers and supporters who lived those Saturdays on pitches across West Yorkshire.
