Alexander Isak or not, Liverpool still have a lack of options in attack at the moment.
They have lost a lot of forwards this summer and so far only Hugo Ekitike has come in. Richard Hughes has put his eggs in one basket which seems like a risky strategy given Liverpool want to continue to be competitive.

That's why even if Isak is ultimately signed this summer, the Reds probably need to bring in another attacker. This could be a versatile option. Someone who can also fill the void left behind by Mohamed Salah when he goes to the African Cup of Nations later this year.
There aren't many quality options available on the market for this type of player. Understandably, Liverpool have taken their time to make a move.
But there is someone on their radar who they have admired for a while and who might just have the green light to make a transfer before the window shuts close.
Obviously, we are running out of time now. August has gone very quickly and we are entering the final few days of the window. There's just over a week to go until the deadline.
This doesn't give Liverpool a lot of time to get a deal over the line. Especially with the focus on Isak and Marc Guehi.
For Malick Fofana though, the Reds may not have to do much negotiation. Liverpool have admired the Lyon winger for a while now. Club scouts kept an eye on him when he was at Gent and have continued to monitor his progress.
The 20-year-old is seen as a very versatile player who can play across the front three, even in a central role if needed.
For much of the window, Fofana has resisted attempts from the likes of Nottingham Forest and Everton. He's been holding out for a bigger move and it seems like there's a good reason as to why.
L'Equipe are reporting that Lyon still need to recoup €40m in transfer fees in order to cover their financial losses and this incidentally is exactly the figure they value Fofana at.
The report claims while the club is reluctant to let him go, they are willing to listen to offers and make a decision. It's almost as if they are inviting them with this report.
So, Liverpool finally have an easy deal on their hands here. Lyon is ready to give the green light for Fofana to move in order to sustain the club.
All the Reds have to do is make the offer the French side needs which is €40m, and roughly £35m. That's a bargain price for a player of Fofana's potential and a bargain price in order to fill an important void in the squad.
Liverpool would be silly to not get this transfer over the line.
