With Rangers submitting a major bid for Tochi Chukwuani of Sturm Graz, Ibrox Noise wanted to offer our tuppence on this potential capture.
At just 22, reports from Austria suggest Chukwuani is the playmaking number 6 Rangers have been looking for.
As Ibrox Noise have reported many times, Rangers have lacked a Barry Ferguson pretty much since his exit all those years ago. Steven Davis for a brief spell filled that gap and was stellar in the slot, but unfortunately wasn’t a long term solution.
Is Chukwuani the man Rangers have looked for?
We did some digging:
“Chukwuani has played a pivotal role in Sturm Graz’s push for the Austrian Bundesliga title this season. A composed and dynamic presence in midfield with three goals and one assist in 26 appearances, he offers the kind of energy and control that could make him a strong fit for the Premier League.”
“His ability to break up play and transition quickly into attack has been a key part of his development since leaving Nordsjælland in 2022. He has also made seven appearances in the Champions League this season.”
“At 21, Tochi Chukwuani has quickly become a key player for SK Sturm Graz in the Austrian Bundesliga. Known for his physicality, tactical intelligence and versatility, he has made 12 appearances this season, solidifying his role as a dynamic defensive central midfielder across Europe.”
In short, a deep-lying defensive playmaker in the mould of Ferguson and indeed Davo who can put his foot on the ball, break up play and dictate passes.
The lad looks like he can play, and Sturm Graz would be losing a fine talent – £4M is not at all bad for what he appears to be.
We won’t assume anything just yet but with seven Champions League appearances, and experience in Denmark and Austria’s top flights, he’s clearly a real prospect.
If this one materialises, hopefully he’s as good for Rangers as he seems to have been for his previous clubs.
