La Liga giants Atlético Madrid will be forced to make do without a number of important players for their upcoming European season opener.

Atlético are of course primed to return to action on Wednesday evening.

A daunting trip to Anfield to face Liverpool awaits, in the Rojiblancos’ first Champions League outing of the campaign.

Diego Simeone’s troops head into the matchup as major underdogs, fresh off a hit-and-miss opening to the term.

And as alluded to above, Atléti’s hopes of securing what would be a surprise result have on Tuesday been dented considerably.

This comes amid confirmation of four of the club’s leading players being ruled out of the Merseyside trip.

The capital outfit announced their squad to face Liverpool on Tuesday.

And nowhere to be seen were any of Thiago Almada, José María Giménez, Álex Baena, Julián Alvarez, or Johnny Cardoso – the latter of whom suffered an ankle sprain in training on Monday.
