It’s time to take a look at the most exciting non-Premier League fixtures from around the globe this weekend.
Bayern Munich have been in imperious form so far this season, but one rather unlikely outfit have been keeping pace with the reigning champions at the top of the Bundesliga table.
It is of course Union Berlin, who like Bayern have dropped just two points so far this season and aren’t too far behind in the goal difference stakes after thrashing Schalke 6-1 last week.
But the capital club’s start to the season won’t be hugely surprising to those who’ve charted their progress over the last couple of seasons. In 2021/22 they played Conference League football and this season they’re playing Europa League football. Could the Champions League be coming to town next?
Saturday’s game represents a great chance to test themselves against one of Europe’s very best at their atmospheric Stadion An der Alten Försterei, and it will be well worth tuning in for.
Over in Serie A on Saturday and there’s a reunion for Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri with his former club Napoli.
Napoli made a super start to the new season with nine goals in their first two matches, but the goals have dried up in their last two, and they’ll be hoping 21-year-old in-form Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia can inspire them at the Stadio Olimpico.
As for Lazio, they remain unbeaten so far this and put Inter to the sword with an excellent performance in a 3-1 victory recently, suggesting Sarrismo could be really beginning to take hold.

There are a few enticing fixtures in LaLiga this weekend, but the one we’re licking our lips for the most takes place at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán on Saturday night.
It has been a crazy summer for Barcelona with lots of coming and going and coach Xavi will no doubt be glad to see the back of the tumultuous transfer window.
Eight goals and two victories in their last two suggests the Blaugrana have constructed a team to be feared again this season, with Robert Lewandowski in particular taking to Spanish football like a duck to water.
Sevilla, meanwhile, are yet to win a game this season and were beaten away at newly promoted Almería last weekend, but their poor run surely won’t last for long and Barça will have to have their wits about them if they are to emerge with another victory from this one.
One of the very fiercest rivalries in world football presents us with its first instalment of the new season on Saturday, and it will be as intense as ever.
Two years ago Celtic’s dream of winning a 10th consecutive Scottish Premiership crown was brought to a shuddering halt by Rangers, who lifted the title for the first time in a decade.
But the appointment of Australian coach Ange Postecoglu brought beautiful football and the title back to Celtic Park last season, and the Bhoys’ fans will be hoping it resides there for the foreseeable future.
The two great rivals have made strong starts to the new season with Celtic’s 100% record leaving them two points ahead of Rangers as things stand, but with both sides making it to the Champions League group stage for the first time since 2007, there could be plenty of twists and turns in the coming weeks.
Expect a firework display in Glasgow as usual.
Whether you call it the Derby della Madonnina or simply the Milan derby, you’ll no doubt be well aware of the special rivalry between these two Italian giants.
They share a stadium but that’s where the bonhomie begins and ends, and the two sets of players and supporters will be at each other’s throats come kick off on Saturday evening.
It was Inter who ended Juventus’ nine-year run of successive Scudetti in 2021 and the Nerazzurri almost won it again last season, only to be pipped at the post by Milan, who lifted the trophy for the first time in 11 years.
Neither side have made a perfect start to the new campaign with Milan yet to get their first win, and the Rossoneri’s last home victory in this fixture came back in 2016.
Lose again on Saturday and Milan boss Stefano Pioli could face some difficult questions, but win and all will be right with the world again. That’s just the nature of the derby the world over.
