The Premier League is back this weekend with some huge fixtures to feast upon in England and across Europe.
Here are our five must-watch games.
Leeds United return to the Premier League after two seasons away and entertain Everton at Elland Road on Monday night.
Daniel Farke has sought to solidify his squad with robust figures, as Leeds look to avoid the relegated fate of the last six promoted teams to the Premier League. There will be reunions, too, with ex-Everton men Jack Harrison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the Leeds ranks.
There’s a London derby between two teams full of optimism on the opening weekend.
Chelsea head into the new season with the title of world champions, after Enzo Maresca’s side upset Paris Saint-Germain to win the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer. Two trophies marked an impressive debut campaign for Maresca who will be keen to continue the upward curve.
In opposition will be Crystal Palace, winners of the FA Cup and Community Shield. After 120 years without a trophy, the Eagles have won two in just three months.
Aston Villa and Newcastle United have been the teams to upset the status quo in the Premier League in recent seasons.
Between them, they’ve qualified for the Champions League in three consecutive campaigns and an opening-day showdown at Villa Park could serve as an early European six-pointer.
Stuttgart and Bayern Munich do battle in the German Super Cup this weekend, as the DFB-Pokal winners meet the Bundesliga champions.
It’s a clash with plenty of narrative in the background, with Bayern having tried – and so far failed – to sign Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade. Last season’s breakout Bundesliga star is in-demand but Stuttgart have so far resisted all approaches.
There’s a cracker at Old Trafford on Sunday as old rivals Manchester United and Arsenal square up.
Ruben Amorim is under pressure to prove he’s the right man for Manchester United, while Mikel Arteta needs to show he can deliver the big trophies to Arsenal.
Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres could debut, with it not entirely inconceivable that the two could have been lining up in the opposition colours earlier in the summer. Who comes out on top could decide the contest.
