Five Toronto FC players are in the mix to represent Canada at the 2025 Gold Cup.

On May 19th, Canada Soccer released its Gold Cup preliminary roster, which includes 60 players. The team will then be able to choose from this roster to build its 23-man squad for the Gold Cup.

Of note for Toronto FC fans, Theo Corbeanu, Deandre Kerr, Richie Laryea, Jonathan Osorio and Kosi Thompson have all made the 60-man roster.

At the Gold Cup, the Canadian Men's National Team will first face Honduras in Vancouver on June 17th before heading to Houston to take on Curacao on the 21st and then El Salvador on the 24th.

There is a strong expectation that, other than the players who will miss the Gold Cup due to the FIFA Club World Cup running at the same time, Jesse Marsch wants to go full strength and secure the CanMNT's first trophy since 2000.

Jonathan Osorio and Richie Laryea are far and away the most likely Toronto FC players to be called up by Jesse Marsch for the Gold Cup, although both are currently still rehabbing injuries. Based on pre-match comments ahead of the CF Montreal fixture, Robin Fraser suggested that both players are looking a lot better, and Laryea may even be in the mix to return soon.

Both Osorio and Laryea have been regular call-ups with the Canadian Men's National Team in recent years nd there's no reason to believe they will be left out of Gold Cup final roster.

Theo Corbeanu will be an interesting case to watch. After bagging a brace against CF Montreal as a sub on his birthday, the 23-year-old now has 6 G/A in 13 matches, all competitions, with Toronto FC. If Canada does ultimately go full strength, it might be a little difficult seeing him find a spot on the team, but some stronger performances between now and the final roster release will undoubtedly help his case.

With a 60-man roster, there are ultimately some players who are going to make it who realistically are absolute long shots to make the final team. For Deandre Kerr and Kosi Thompson, they likely fall into that category.

Thompson has never featured for Canada at any level despite coming through Toronto FC's academy, which often has the most players on Canadian youth teams. Kosi has had some bright moments this season while equally having some rough moments. As a player still trying to figure out who he will ultimately be at the MLS level, it feels extremely unlikely to see him earn a Gold Cup call-up.

Kerr, on the other hand, has played for Canada, both at the U15 and U17 levels. The 22-year-old striker is currently out with an injury, and Fraser's most recent update suggests he is still a ways away from returning. That said, a full-strength Canada squad has incredible striker depth that would see Kerr placed well outside the top of the depth chart to receive a spot on the final roster.

The connections to Toronto FC with the roster announcement don't end there though as a whole host of former Toronto FC and Toronto FC academy players make the 60-man roster.

Former Toronto FC players Raheem Edwards (New York Red Bulls), Jayden Nelson (Vancouver Whitecaps), Jacob Shaffelburg (Nashville), Mark Anthony-Kaye (San Jose Earthquakes), Jakheele Marshall-Ruty (Charlotte FC), Luca Petrasso (CF Montreal) and Ralph Priso (Vancouver Whitecaps) were all named to the roster.

Looking at former academy players who never featured for the first team, Promise David, Jovan Ivanisevic, Shola Jimoh, and Kwasi Poku made the list.
