To the fans and media:
Today, 500 days before the start of the FIFA World Cup 2026™️, Guadalajara reaffirms its commitment to be an unforgettable host for the world's biggest sporting event. The city will host four exciting group stage matches, including one of the opening games on June 11, and will host the second match of the Mexican National Team on June 18, consolidating its position as a key venue for this historic tournament.
With a view to offering a unique experience to fans from around the world, Guadalajara is transforming itself. The Stadium, the epicenter of the matches in the city, is moving forward in its renovation with significant improvements such as the installation of LED lights, a free WiFi network for attendees and state-of-the-art security systems. In addition, the stadium will have the first hybrid field in Mexico, certified with FIFA Quality Pro. This innovative project integrates advanced technology, such as a Draintalent ventilation and drainage system to prevent flooding and fungus, and Growing Lights, which ensures healthy grass in optimal conditions for the game.
Beyond the stadium, the World Cup spirit lives on throughout the city. In April of this year, Guadalajara's official World Cup poster will be unveiled, a visual representation of the city's pride and passion as a World Cup host city.
In addition, three flagship events, combining culture, sport and celebration, will highlight Guadalajara's World Cup legacy and its historic participation in previous editions. The FIFA Fan Festival™️ will be held at the iconic Plaza Liberación, in the heart of Guadalajara's Historic Center. This space will offer interactive activities, live broadcasts and a unique atmosphere for locals and visitors to be part of the World Cup party. With limited free access, the festival will be a meeting point where thousands of fans will be able to experience the excitement of the tournament.
This great event is not only a milestone for Guadalajara, but also for the history of soccer. For the first time, the FIFA World Cup will be held in three countries -Mexico, the United States and Canada-, with 16 host cities united for the same purpose: to celebrate the sport that unites the world. Guadalajara, along with Zapopan, where Guadalajara Stadium is located, will play a key role in this visionary tournament.
With just 500 days to go until the ball starts rolling, the Guadalajara Local Committee is working closely with FIFA Mexico to ensure that this edition will be unforgettable.
