FC Barcelona got past Real Sociedad exceptionally well on the night at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium in La Liga, helping them reclaim the first spot in the standings from Atletico Madrid. For the first time in a long while, the Catalan club now sit alone at the top of the table.

Real Madrid dropped points on Saturday against Real Betis, losing 2-1 to an Isco-led team and this was a glorious opportunity for Barcelona to pull ahead. They did just that on the night against Imanol Algaucil’s men, emerging 4-0 winners.

Sociedad went one man down very early on in the game, it was a straightforward game for Barcelona. Ronald Araujo, Gerard Martin, Marc Casado and Robert Lewandowski were all on the score sheet with Dani Olmo getting two assists and the Uruguayan also getting an assist.

One player who did not score or assist on the night but had a brilliant game was Lamine Yamal. As reflected by stats on SofaScore, the Spaniard did not put a foot wrong all game and was at the heart of everything productive that the team did.

Lamine played the entire game and had an xG of 0.12 and xA of 1.12. The 17-year-old recorded 108 touches, completing 68 out of 78 passes. This included six key passes in what was an excellent playmaking performance.

The Spanish international completed 6 out of his 10 attempted dribbles. He was a constant menace to the Real Sociedad defense on the left side where they often doubled or even tripled up to stop him but still failed to do so.

What this also did was open up space for Dani Olmo who really benefitted from Lamine’s presence today. As always, the Spaniard was also on point defensively, winning 9 out of 14 ground duels on the night and always willingly helping out in defense.

It might be the case that Lamine hasn’t scored in the league since the Clasico in October but that doesn’t take away the fact that he continues to be very influential to the proceedings. The goalscoring will happen and let’s wait and see how it plays out going forward.
