£60m Liverpool signing delivers EXTRAORDINARY response

Liverpool have world-class players in their set up and it takes an extraordinary effort to stand out.

Mohamed Salah is often the main player that rival fans acknowledge, simply because his goal returns are so prolific that they're almost too many to brush aside. Likewise, the level that Virgil Van Dijk has been playing at over the last decade has meant he's forced himself into the all-time debates.

For other players, it's really difficult to stand out. Of course, if you're in the PFA team of the season, then it means the players' colleagues have recognised their efforts and Liverpool have six of the XI currently employed at the club - Milos Kerkez, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Alexander Isak alongside Salah and Van Dijk. Their success is well documented and so naturally they are rated.

But for the other members of the Reds' squad, an extraordinary effort is required to be given the same credit others have received. This past month, Dominik Szoboszlai did just that in three games.

Liverpool's underrated galactico

Prior to the campaign beginning, Szoboszlai was written off because Florian Wirtz was signed to play in his position as Arne Slot's No. 10. Since Mac Allister and Gravenberch were already part of a complete double-pivot in midfield, the Hungarian was relegated to the substitute bench by fans.

However, he was exemplary throughout August, despite not getting a game in his preferred position.

Against Bournemouth on the opening day, he partnered the Argentine as a central midfielder, staying a lot deeper on the pitch than he's used to and he managed to largely keep the defence stable.

Then against Newcastle, he was played at right-back since Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong were both unavailable and we were treated to a masterclass, as he covered a position he's so rarely played in his career. You really had to see it to believe it as the stats don't do him justice, especially his involvement in Rio Ngumoha's 100th minute winner, leaving the ball to the 16-year-old.

But the match against Arsenal at Anfield was where he truly came into his own, again at right-back, scoring possibly the goal of the season by rifling a free kick from 32 yards out past David Raya.

No one really has any idea where he should play moving forward, be it returning him to the No. 10, trying him deep in midfield again or continuing to start him at right-back as a dynamic hybrid player.

But he's quickly become Liverpool's version of Real Madrid's Federico Valverde, manoeuvring into whichever position his team needs him to be in and battering down the hatches to deliver a result.

As a result, he's been nominated by the Premier League for the Player of the Month award, which you can vote for here, and it would genuinely feel wrong if anyone else took home the recognition.

Likewise, his striker against Arsenal is up for Premier League Goal of the Month, which is another award which you can vote for here, although he's up against some extraordinary finishes in fairness.

He's irreplaceable in Slot's side, regardless of where he plays, you just have to find a way to play him.

In terms of a response to the doubts many had about him prior to the season, he's delivered emphatically and then some. Long may his form continue, he's breathtaking to watch on the pitch.
