Liverpool are reported to be in the market for a central defender this summer with Joel Matip out of contract and ongoing uncertainty over the long-term future of Virgil van Dijk.

A successor for the 33-year-old will be required with his contract expiring in 2025 and accordingly it’s been reported that the Reds are looking at Leny Yoro of Lille.

The 18-year-old was outstanding during his breakout Ligue 1 season and is also on the radar of Real Madrid.

His contract expires next year and Lille will be keen to cash in on their youth team product rather than losing him for nothing.

Madrid is believed to be Yoro’s long-term goal but Liverpool are ready to pick up the pieces should the 15 times European champions fail to get the deal done.

In recent weeks however, reports have emerged linking the Anfield outfit with a return for Juventus centre back Gleison Bremer.

Liverpool back in for Bremer

Before the Brazilian completed a transfer to Juve back in 2022, Liverpool were among the teams reported to be watching the then-Torino central defender.

Bremer, 27, has since established himself as the finest defender in Serie A and signed a new deal in Turin last December.

Italian media reports suggest there is a buyout clause in the deal worth between €60 million and €70m, but it will only become active in 2025.

Tuttomercatoweb has revealed that Chelsea and Manchester United remain on the scene as long-term suitors for the five-cap Brazil international but ALSO stated that Liverpool and Bayern Munich are now in the shakeup to sign him.

Bremer: I leave it to my agents

Speaking to Diario AS at the weekend before Brazil’s Copa America elimination at the hands of Uruguay, Bremer revealed that he was flattered to receive interest in his services but his focus was on international duty.

"I am very focused on the Copa America and I leave the matter to my agents,” he said.

“Of course, I have read some things and I am happy to know which clubs with so much history could follow me, but the truth is that I will speak to them after the Copa America.”

The time is now with Brazil exiting at the quarter-final stage.
