Manchester United will likely have a quiet January transfer window but they could bolster their attack next summer.
Viktor Gyokeres has been heavily linked with a transfer to United especially after the arrival of manager Ruben Amorim from Sporting CP.
The Swedish sensation is one of the most prolific strikers in Europe.
He continued his phenomenal goal-scoring run in the 6-0 win over Azerbaijan in the UEFA Nations League.
He netted four goals, two in either half and won ten of his 15 duels in a masterclass display.
He could have scored five goals but missed a big opportunity. He also completed three of his four dribbles.
Gyokeres thrived under Amorim at Sporting, bagging 66 goals and 23 assists in merely 68 games.
There is a significant difference between the Portuguese and English leagues but Gyokeres’ form for Sweden proves he is one of the most sought-after strikers in the world.
The 26-year-old has opened the door to joining United next summer but has two conditions.
He wants an ‘important role’ at his next club where he ‘gets to play’ regularly.
United already have Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee fighting for the number nine role.
Amorim prefers a quick striker who dares to take on defenders. Zirkzee does not fit that profile which raises big doubts over his Old Trafford future.
Hojlund could thrive under the Portuguese but he has been in dismal form.
It would be a great deal for United if they could sign Gyokeres next summer.
The striker has a gentleman’s agreement to leave the club for £63 million next summer even though he has a £83m release clause in his current contract.
Amorim brought the best out of Gyokeres and a reunion at Old Trafford could be tempting for him.
