Enzo Fernandez will be back in the Chelsea team this weekend, having served his two game suspension by the club, but the questions about his future won’t be so easily resolved.
Nizaar Kinsella’s piece for the BBC today looks at the want-away star and the potential next steps in his very unclear future.
“Either Chelsea offer Fernandez a new contract, or he attempts to force a move,” Kinsella writes, claiming that the Argentine is not happy with the sporting side or the financial side of his setup right now.
It puts Chelsea in a difficult position – do they reward his bad behaviour with a pay rise? Or risk a disgruntled Fernandez tanking his own transfer value? Right now, Kinsella claims that the Blues would need to recoup at least £75m to avoid taking a loss on the player they paid £105m for.
Will anyone out there offer that sort of money? Not if they think they can get him for less in a year or two.
“Failure to reach a new agreement would represent a growing concern – despite Rosenior’s attempts to project confidence,” is Kinsella’s conclusion.
Liam Rosenior denied there were any tensions in the dressing room over Enzo’s attempts to leave.
Rosenior was quite defensive in his take on the lack of “belief” being showed by his players. It’s not entirely convincing.
