These eight Charlton players may be angling for a move away, either permanently or on loan, before the transfer window closes

Charlton Athletic are playing in consecutive Championship campaigns for the first time in over a decade this year, and the focus is still on consolidating themselves as a second-tier side once more.

The Addicks made a splash in the transfer window last summer ahead of their first season back in six years, bringing in numerous top-end League One stars in the hope they could make the step-up to the next level alongside them.

Not all of those signings worked out, but Nathan Jones' side still finished 19th, a respectable position for the League One play-off winners.

With the Championship improving in quality, though, and sides around them spending good fees on new arrivals, Charlton have to keep up, and more second-tier-ready stars have been, and will still be, prioritised in the ongoing transfer window.

Five new names have come through the Valley's doors, and those, plus other arrivals between now and September 1, will surely see these eight players angling for a move away before the window closes.

Kayne Ramsay

Unlike the majority of players on the list, versatile defender Kayne Ramsay definitely won't be someone that Charlton are happy to let go this summer. Unfortunately, there may be little the Addicks can do to stop him.

The 25-year-old has been a staple of the Charlton backline both in their promotion campaign and their first back in the Championship last year. But as he enters the final year of his contract, Serie A side Torino have expressed an interest in his services.

A mixture of not wanting to lose Ramsay for free next summer and a potential willingness to test himself in the Italian top flight from the player's side in what would admittedly be a surprise move could see a sale become inevitable this summer.

Collins Sichenje

It wasn't the easiest transition period for Collins Sichenje after making a reported €2.2 million move to Charlton from Serbian side FK Vojvodina in February.

The 22-year-old was sidelined weeks after his debut with an injured hamstring, and then, three games following his return, he was withdrawn after 28 minutes in the penultimate campaign against Hull City with another injury issue.

The Addicks have added to their centre-back options with Billy Koumetio, and with the likes of Lloyd Jones, Reece Burke and Amari'i Bell as defensive options, too, it may be hard for Sichenje to break back into the side.

Perhaps a loan move to gain more valuable game time could be the right move this summer, especially if he hardly features in the first few weeks of the season.

Nathan Asiimwe

Charlton academy product Nathan Asiimwe spent last season on loan at AFC Wimbledon in what was his first full season as a starting full-back.

The 21-year-old performed well, playing 42 games across all competitions and being a mainstay in Johnnie Jackson's side in the opening stages of the campaign, which saw the Dons climb into play-off contention in late October.

The likelihood of him coming back to Charlton to play first-team Championship football seems slim, though, and another loan spell, perhaps to a better third-tier side, may be the best way for him to progress.

Harvey Knibbs

Harvey Knibbs is one example of a player Charlton brought in last summer who had excelled in League One in previous years, but was unable to make his mark in the Championship and may be looking at a way out 12 months after he signed.

The 27-year-old scored 14 times for Reading during the 2024/25 third-tier campaign, but played fewer than 700 Championship minutes in his debut season at Charlton.

He still managed three goals, but with just seven league starts all year, he surely has to be someone looking for a fresh start.

Rob Apter

Part two of the top-end League One talents who found it hard to adapt at Charlton and may be searching for a move away is Rob Apter.

The 23-year-old began the campaign as Nathan Jones' first-choice right midfielder and started the first five games. However, he started just three more times after that and was sent out on loan back to the third tier in January.

At Bolton Wanderers, he was a useful squad option for Steven Schumacher's side, and, like at Charlton, had a run of starts in the infancy of his time at the Toughsheet Stadium. After being an unused substitute in the final three games of the regular season, though, he wasn't even in the squad for the Trotters' play-off campaign.

Apter has plenty of quality at League One level, and he'll definitely be hoping to rediscover that this season.

Tanto Olaofe

And completing the trilogy of former third-tier players who will be angling for a move back to League One this summer is explosive frontman Tanto Olaofe.

The 26-year-old was used primarily as an impact substitute at the Valley during the first half of the campaign, with 16 of his 22 Championship appearances coming off the bench. He, like Apter, was sent on loan in January, where he re-joined Stockport County.

Olaofe was unable to rediscover the form he exhibited at Edgeley Park, which prompted the Addicks to sign him for £1.5 million, though. He scored just once in 22 appearances back at his old club.

He is a strong option from the bench, but Nathan Jones may likely turn to some younger talent to take up that role this season.

Tyreece Campbell

Tyreece Campbell didn't have a good first season at Championship level, as he struggled to make the step-up from League One.

The 22-year-old was a regular fixture in the starting eleven in the opening months of the campaign, but failed to score in 19 games to begin the year, prompting Nathan Jones to use him mainly off the bench.

This summer, the Addicks have strengthened their left-sided attacking options with the returning Karlan Grant and Millenic Alli, too, so it's difficult to see where Campbell will fit in the upcoming season.

Like Ramsay, he's also in the final year of his deal and could be shipped to avoid losing him for free next summer.

Micah Mbick

The striker position is incredibly saturated at Charlton, so some of their young talents may be angling for loan moves away this summer to continue their development.

Daniel Kanu was brilliant at Walsall last season, and could stake a claim for some Championship minutes at the Valley, but Micah Mbick may need another year further down the pyramid before he can say the same.

The 19-year-old spent last season at Colchester United, and despite injuries limiting him to just two appearances from February onwards, his performances in the opening half of the campaign were encouraging, scoring seven and assisting twice.
