Manchester United star Noussair Mazraoui delivered an impressive performance during Morocco’s 7-0 rout of Lesotho in a Africa Cup of Nations qualifier yesterday.
The 27-year-old signed for the Red Devils from Bayern Munich last summer. He has been one of their best performers this season despite changing roles regularly.
Mazraoui has played in the right and left-back positions for the club. He has been consistent with his distribution, duel-winning ability and inverted runs into midfield.
The former Ajax man started from the right side of the back four for Morocco yesterday. He did not make a goal contribution versus Lesotho, but had a solid game at home.
Mazraoui had 93 touches with a passing accuracy of 90 percent. He won 100 percent of his aerial duels.
The defender also created two chances as Morocco dominated proceedings at the Honor Stadium.
United are set for a major tactical change following the arrival of Ruben Amorim as the new manager.
The Portuguese has played with a 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 set-up throughout his young managerial career and he is expected to go with a similar formation with the Red Devils.
This could bring the best out of Mazraoui. The £25 million-rated star has shown that he is comfortable inverting into midfield and he could be a regular starter under Amorim.
Mazraoui’s work rate has been impressive on both ends of the pitch. He could become the manager’s favourite if he continues his bright start to his United career.
United return to Premier League action with an away trip to Ipswich Town on Sunday. United have received an early boost with Kobbie Mainoo back in training.
