A Bayern Munich winger could be a target for Manchester City if their current wingers don’t develop

Manchester City currently have a host of wingers on their books who are loaded with talent and potential. This applies to Jeremy Doku, Savinho and Oscar Bobb. Each player has shown flashes of what type of player they could become in time. But they aren’t yet the finished article. Omar Marmoush and Phil Foden also typically play on the left and right wings and are in the prime years of their careers. So there are options on the wing amongst Pep Guardiola’s squad.

But if Doku, Bobb and Savinho don’t develop as their potential suggests this season, Manchester City could be in the market for a winger next summer. Especially one who is more of a finished product than Doku, Bobb or Savinho. A new report from Christian Falk for CF Bayern Insider indicates that Manchester City, alongside Liverpool, are keeping an eye on Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise. Olise would immediately improve City’s options out wide. But a City move for the French international wouldn’t come until next summer. It may also hinge on how Manchester City’s current wingers develop.

Manchester City and Liverpool are watching the situation surrounding Michael Olise.

Christian Falk has reported for CF Bayern Insider that Manchester City and Liverpool are monitoring the situation surrounding Michael Olise at Bayern Munich. Furthermore, Falk reports that Bayern Munich’s goal of reducing their wage bill presents them with a tricky task in offering Olise a lucrative contract extension. Since arriving at Bayern from Crystal Palace, Olise has established himself as one of the premier wingers in world football. Falk further reports that the longer Bayern do not offer Olise a contract extension, the greater the chance that a Premier League club such as Manchester City or Liverpool could move for Olise.

If Manchester City’s current wingers develop, they may not need another winger next summer.

If Manchester City were in the market for a winger next summer, Michael Olise would likely be at the top of their wish list. Since signing for Bayern Munich, Olise has scored twenty-four goals and added twenty-four assists in sixty appearances. But more than his goals and assists, Olise has taken his game to another level at Bayern Munich. He arrived at the club as a promising young winger full of potential from Crystal Palace. Olise is now one of the top wingers in football. His dribbling ability, coupled with his eye for goal and ability to pick out a pass and deliver a deadly cross, makes him such a dangerous player. He is a key part of Vincent Kompany’s team and is only improving.

But will Manchester City be in the market for a winger next summer? That depends entirely on how Savinho, Oscar Bobb and Jeremy Doku develop. If one or two of them take the next step City will be covered for young and quality wide men. If none of them do and remain tantalising prospects in just under twelve months time that may force City to look for a winger who is the finished article. That is where we could see Pep Guardiola’s side move for Michael Olise next summer.

It isn’t a surprise to see it reported that Manchester City are keeping an eye on the situation surrounding Michael Olise. The French international is one of the premier attacking players in the game. But whether or not City need a new winger may be dependent on how their young wingers develop. How Bobb, Doku and Savinho fare this season is worth watching as it may shape who City move for during next summer’s transfer window.
