Bad news for Jamal Musiala and FC Bayern. After the 23-year-old had already missed the Nations League opener against the Netherlands at the last minute, the diagnosis is now confirmed: The attacking player has suffered a torn muscle fiber in his right thigh.

As the German Football Association announced on Friday, tests conducted late Thursday evening confirmed the muscle injury. Musiala will therefore be sidelined for the remainder of the international break and will leave the German national team early.

This confirms that the discomfort he felt during the warm-up in Amsterdam was more than just a precautionary measure.

Musiala was injured immediately before kickoff

Musiala had actually been slated to start in the first international match under Jürgen Klopp. But during the warm-up before the 1-1 draw against the Netherlands, the Bayern Munich player suddenly felt discomfort in his thigh.

Klopp had to react quickly and brought in Nadiem Amiri to play in the number 10 position. After the match, the national team coach had already revealed that Musiala was undergoing an MRI at that time.

“It’s not a health issue. It’s a muscle issue; I was standing right next to him when it happened during the warm-up. He’s getting an MRI. I hope we’ll get the diagnosis tonight. Of course, this isn’t great. We’ll see if he can still stay with us,” Klopp explained on RTL.

Now it’s clear: Musiala cannot remain with the national team and is leaving early.

Another setback for Musiala

The injury is particularly bitter for the 23-year-old. After his health issues during preseason, Musiala had recently been working his way back to full fitness step by step.

In the 7-0 victory over Union Berlin, he played the full 90 minutes for the first time this season. Musiala scored a goal and set up another.

Klopp had originally even planned to have the Bayern star join the national team for the entire international break. Musiala was supposed to gain additional training and playing time with the DFB to further get back into his rhythm. That plan is now off the table.

Instead, Musiala is returning to Munich with an injury. The DFB has not yet disclosed how long the attacking player will be sidelined for Bayern Munich. The only thing that is clear is that he will no longer be able to play for Germany during the current international break.
