A draw that sends Al Ahly through — Group B takes shape
Al Ahly booked quarter final place as Group B results were confirmed after two key matches on Saturday night.
The fifth round of Group B in CAF Champions League ended on Saturday with two decisive fixtures involving the group’s four contender:
Al Ahly were held to goalless draw by JS Kabylie at Hussein Ait Ahmed Stadium, in tight match where chances were limited.
Despite the lack of goals, the result was enough to secure qualification for the Egyptian champions with one round still to play.
In the other match, AS FAR claimed 1-0 victory over Young Africans.
The Moroccan side showed control and discipline earning three points that lifted them into second place in the standings.
With the latest results, Al Ahly moved to the top of Group B with nine point from five match confirming their place in the quarter-finals.
Their experience in the competition once again proved key in managing difficult away fixtures.
AS FAR now sit second with eight point putting them in strong position ahead of the final group match.
Young Africans dropped to third with five point while JS Kabylie remain bottom of the group with three point and face elimination.
The final round will decide who joins Al Ahly in the knockout stage, with AS FAR holding the advantage but still needing positive result to be safe.
