Tijjani Reijnders made a superb Premier League debut for Manchester City during their 4-nil win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on the opening weekend of the 25/26 season. Based on Reijnders’ performance at Molineux, it seemed that he would take to the Premier League like a duck to water. But following his spectacular Premier League debut, the Dutch international has needed time to adjust to life in the Premier League and at Manchester City. As the October international break begins, it is evident that Reijnders is growing as a City player.

Tijjani Reijnders is beginning to adjust to life at Manchester City.

So far this season, Tijjani Reijnders has made 10 appearances for his new team. He’s scored one goal, added three assists, and played a total of 792 minutes. Pep Guardiola has trusted Reijnders from the moment he arrived at the club from AC Milan. In the 10 appearances Reijnders has made, there have been signs that he is growing into life at Manchester City. There are also areas of his game that he must improve. That is to be expected from a player making the move from Serie A to the Premier League.

In Manchester City’s past two matches against AS Monaco and Brentford, Reijnders has looked more settled in his role in Pep Guardiola’s side. His ability to get forward from midfield has been prominent in those two matches. Reijnders’ combination play with his teammates is growing. Reijnders’ ability to link up with his teammates stood out against Brentford, especially in the first half of Sunday’s match. Some of the interplay between Reijnders, Foden, Bobb and Matheus Nunes was spellbinding. That was a major positive to come out of the first half at the GTech Community Stadium.

Against AS Monaco, Tijjani Reijnders hit the bar, and against Brentford, he saw a rasping volley saved by Caoihim Kelleher in the first half. If those two chances go in, the appraisal of Tijjani Reijnders’ start to life at Manchester City would be very different. But he is getting into good positions, and the goals will come if he keeps doing what he is doing. Pep Guardiola’s side needs another goal threat outside of Erling Haaland. Tijjani Reijnders could be that player if his chances begin to get put away.

Tijjani Reijnders is also looking stronger in midfield.

The knock on Tijjani Reijnders as a player when he arrived at Manchester City was his weakness in duels. He did struggle with the intensity of the Premier League in Manchester City’s opening games of the new season. Often, Reijnders would lose possession, or he took too long on the ball. But he does look to be improving this side of his game. The Dutch midfielder was better in this regard against Brentford, so that was a major positive to come from Manchester City’s win at the GTech Community Stadium.

Summary.

Tijjani Reijnders looks to be growing into his role at Manchester City. He has taken time to adjust to life in the Premier League and as an important midfielder in a Pep Guardiola side. If the positives that have emerged in Tijjani Reijnders’ play continue to grow, he’ll quickly become an integral player for City and be looked back upon as a shrewd summer signing by the club.
