“A leap in quality”: Expert praises FC Bayern’s summer transfers | OneFootball

Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown were FC Bayern’s two marquee signings this summer. Together with promising young player Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, they strengthen the squad of Germany’s record champions. For former Bayern manager Michael Reschke, one thing is certain: Despite notable departures, the Munich team has improved in quality.

With Leon Goretzka and Raphael Guerreiro, two experienced players have left FC Bayern. Nicolas Jackson, who was part of the squad last season, is also no longer with the team. In terms of depth, the Munich squad hasn’t necessarily gotten any bigger as a result. Instead, club officials are hoping the new signings will bring more individual quality.

Saibari and Brown, in particular, are expected to play an important role. Both were signed early on, allowing them to prepare for their new roles in Munich without the usual transfer-window stress that typically arises just before the deadline.

Reschke sees a “leap in quality” at Bayern

Michael Reschke views his former club’s transfer activities in a very positive light. In an interview with the Abendzeitung München, the former technical director of FC Bayern singled out Saibari and Brown in particular.

“Of course, they’ve lost key players in Leon Goretzka and Raphael Guerreiro. But with Brown and Saibari, they’ve made a leap in quality. All the other departures are only significant from a financial perspective; from a sporting standpoint, they don’t carry much weight,” Reschke explained.

The 68-year-old thus shares the assessment of many observers: While the Bayern squad hasn’t necessarily gotten bigger, the quality at the top has increased following the changes this summer.

Reschke also praised the fact that Munich made its most important personnel decisions early this time around. “When it comes to planning, there’s nothing better than making the most important decisions early and with full conviction,” emphasized the former Bayern manager.

In the past, this wasn’t always the case. On several occasions, the record champions had to react in the final days of a transfer window. Nicolas Jackson, for example, didn’t move from Chelsea FC to Munich until shortly before the 2025 transfer deadline.

Reschke knows from his own time at Säbener Straße that early planning has traditionally been a top priority at FC Bayern. “Even back in my day, we would discuss the plan for the upcoming squad right after the season started. I was always in early discussions with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in particular about this,” he explained.

With Saibari and Brown, Bayern has secured its most important transfers for the new season early this time around. In Reschke’s assessment, this approach has paid off—and given the record champion’s squad a noticeable boost in quality.
