John Stones had started the first three games of the new Premier League season for Manchester City. His best performance came on the opening weekend of the new season in his team’s 4-nil win over Wolves. Stones followed that game up with two more starts against Tottenham and Brighton. Following his return to fitness, Stones was selected in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia.

Unfortunately for John Stones, he has been withdrawn from the England squad due to injury. It has been reported that Stones’ withdrawal from Thomas Tuchel’s England is only a precaution. Given John Stones’ recent injury history, it is a cause for concern to see him again miss out on football due to a fitness issue.

England manager Thomas Tuchel has provided an update on the fitness of John Stones. In quotes relayed on mancity.com, the England manager said: “Unfortunately, John Stones [has] just left. Manchester City will be hoping that John Stones hasn’t suffered a fresh injury setback.

John Stones has had an injury-ravaged past two seasons for Manchester City. The fact that he had started the first three games this season was a huge positive. When fully fit, Stones is an important player for Pep Guardiola’s side. He plays a role that no other centre-back at City can play. His ability to drift into midfield as a centre-back allows Pep Guardiola’s side to have an extra midfielder when they have possession.

For now, it seems like John Stones’ withdrawal from the England squad is only a precautionary measure. But given Stones recent injury history the hope is the proves to be the case and he can take part in next weekend’s Manchester derby.
