The Croatian international suffered a tibial fracture in his right leg during Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at the beginning of January. The new report gives a positive update on Gvardiol’s progress, which is good news for City and potentially Croatia ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

If Manchester City do get Josko Gvardiol back this season it will be a bonus.

Josko Gvardiol when fit is a key player for Manchester City. In truth, Gvardiol is arguably the best ball-playing defender on City’s books. Pep Guardiola’s side has missed the Croatian international while he has been sidelined. Gvardiol’s ability to play at centre-back, or at left-back, and get forward is a key component of Pep Guardiola’s side. These elements have been missing from City’s play in his absence.

The new update on Josko Gvardiol’s recovery is good news. But for right now, it would be a bonus if Gvardiol did return to the pitch this season. He would be coming from a long way back given the serious injury he sustained. It is more important for Manchester City to have Gvardiol back 100% fit rather than come back too early. Despite the good news from Novosti on Gvardiol’s recovery, it does seem that Gvardiol is set to remain on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.

Josko Gvardiol is reportedly making good progress in his recovery from injury. That is good news but it will still likely be a while before the Rolls Royce of a defender is making a meaningful contribution to Pep Guardiola’s side.
