Rayan Cherki had a superb first season with Manchester City. Cherki arrived at the club from Lyon as a player whose talent was undeniable, but questions surrounded Cherki’s ability to make it at a club like City. Come the end of the 2025-26 season, those doubts were firmly erased. Cherki now looms as a key player in the future for his team. City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has shared his view that City were convinced about how special Cherki could be before they signed him. On top of that, Cherki is looming as a player who could have a huge impact at the upcoming World Cup.
In his annual end of season interview, Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak spoke of City’s belief that Cherki would be a special player when they signed him last summer. Also, Khaldoon Al Mubarak reminded everyone of Cherki’s age and of the talent that Manchester City possess in their squad. He explained: “We had a high conviction that Rayan [Cherki] had the potential to be quite a special player.”
“And I remind you; he’s still a young man. But as this team grows and you look at the team today beyond Rayan, with the strong talent from top to bottom, from Erling [Haaland], Rodri, [Antoine] Semenyo, Jeremy Doku who has been phenomenal this season, [Abdukodir] Khusanov extraordinary, Nico O’Reilly, [Gianluigi] Donnarumma.”
“In every position we have very talented young players and with the depth of experience of players like Rodri as an example, I mean, we really have quite a team.”
Rayan Cherki is now a critical player for Manchester City. Any doubts about Cherki’s fit at City are now put to rest. Manchester City’s squad is filled with promising young talent and experienced leaders. Cherki is a player who will be vital in City’s new era, and he looks poised to carry his strong 2025-26 form into this summer’s World Cup.
France went down to a 2-1 friendly defeat to the Ivory Coast last night as each nation continues its preparations for the upcoming World Cup. Ivory Coast picked up an impressive win over one of the favorites to win this summer’s tournament. However, one of the highlights of the match came from Rayan Cherki, who provided a glimpse of his quality and showed why he could be set for a big World Cup.
It was Rayan Cherki who opened the scoring for France on the stroke of halftime with a brilliant piece of individual magic. Cherki received the ball on the edge of the Ivory Coast box before beating two Ivory Coast defenders with some superb footwork. He then beat Ivory Coast keeper Yahia Fofana with a brilliant right-footed finish. That one piece of magic from Cherki showcased everything he has displayed for Manchester City this season. It also showed why he could be a match-winner for France at the upcoming World Cup. Also, Cherki’s overall performance last night showed he offers a threat in the final third completely different to any other player France has which is saying something.
As Khaldoon Al Mubarak explained, Manchester City knew they’d signed a special player in Rayan Cherki. The French international now looms as a key component of City’s new era after his dazzling debut season. Also, after his brilliant goal last night, Cherki looms as a vital player for France at the World Cup. If Rayan Cherki shines at the World Cup, he could head into next season full of confidence and ready to take the Premier League and Europe by storm for City.
