A historic step for Milanese football and the future of San Siro

A new Milan is coming: rivals join forces to rebuild football’s most famous cathedral
AC Milan & Inter Milan have officially completed the joint acquisition of the San Siro district including the iconic Giuseppe Meazza Stadium and the surrounding land.
The City of Milan approved the sale in September 2025 but both clubs finalized and signed all necessary documentation on Wednesday 5 November 2025 according to joint statement issued by the clubs.
The agreement represents new chapter for the city and its 2 giant. Backed respectively by RedBird Capital (AC Milan) & Oaktree-managed funds (Inter), the ownership signals unified ambition to deliver long-term sporting success and sustainable urban development in Milan.
It's expected to become new architectural symbol of Milan complementing the city’s global image as hub of culture, sport and design.
While most of the existing Giuseppe Meazza Stadium will be demolished between 2031 and 2032, construction of the new arena will begin near the current site rather than directly on it.
Work scheduled to start in 1st half of 2027 with completion targeted for 2031 ensuring that both clubs can move into their new home for the 2031 /32 season.
The redevelopment also includes new Centre of Excellence blending sporting innovation with cultural heritage.
Crucially the timing aligns with Italy’s co hosting of Euro 2032 alongside Turkey.
