Lacking efficiency for a long time in the first half, the Rouge et Blanc showed their skill to make the difference after the break and win against TFC (2-0). It was a clean sheet and a victory synonymous with a return to the podium.
They are rediscovering the taste of winning. Patient in the first act and dominant from start to finish, the AS Monaco players found the fault net in the second half to very logically beat Toulouse FC at the Stade Louis-II (2-0). It was three points that allowed the club from the Principality to recover a place on the podium. ✍️
Beaten last weekend on their trip to Marseille (2-1), our Rouge et Blanc approached this match against Les Violets with the desire to get back on the winning track in the league. It would be a difficult mission, against a team that has only conceded once in its last five Ligue 1 matches (four wins)… against PSG! The stakes are therefore high to keep their place on the podium.
To do this, coach Adi Hütter decided to maintain his preferred system with a 4-2-3-1, with some rotations to note. There was a return for Thilo Kehrer in central defence, one for Caio Henrique on the left and Takumi Minamino behind the striker, as the Japanese international played behind George Ilenikhena.
We have to keep our way of playing, because there are times when we will also have our share of luck in certain matches. I don't think it is necessary to focus on individual errors. (...) These are small details that we have to change and we are on the right track to do so.
Our Monégasques attacked the match with a bang, but failed to hit the target on a first attempt by our number 21 (4′). George Ilenikhena then made a run in behind and gave himself a one-on-one with Guillaume Restes, but he hit the post on his attempted lob (11′). What a shame… Very lively, Maghnes Akliouche tried twice in turn (13′, 14′), but without success.
This first half was clearly one-sided, and gave rise to another attempt by the Monaco center forward, which was kepy out by the Toulouse goalkeeper (29′), as was a sudden shot from Aleksandr Golovin from the left, which fell to the feet of George, who hit… the crossbar (35′)! It was the second time the young Monegasque talent, had hit the woodwork, a first this season in Ligue 1.
The latter will even create a last opportunity on a cutback from Takumi Minamino which Maghnes let roll, but he didn’t get his effort on target. Adi Hütter’s men would therefore return from the locker room with the desire to capitalize on their opportunities. And that was done immediately after the restart on a free kick from Lamine Camara, which Wilfried Singo headed home at the back post (1-0, 50′) !
It was the second goal this season for the Ivorian after his banger against Red Star Belgrade, and a second assist for the Senegalese midfielder. After the hour mark, the first changes took place and Eliesse Ben Seghir was dangerous from the start (64′). The match then lost intensity, until an opportunistic finish for Breel Embolo, who lobbed Guillaume Restes with a header (2-0, 82′)!
It was job done a Suazo’s run didn’t beat Radeck Majecki who was attentive to record his third clean sheet of the season. A patient AS Monaco therefore won against Les Violets, to go on to the podium in the top flight. DAGHE MUNEGU !!! 🇲🇨
