Manuel Neuer was the center of attention after FC Bayern’s spectacular 4-3 win over Real Madrid – and for two reasons. On the one hand, the captain once again made a strong save, and on the other, he made a momentous mistake right at the start. What followed, however, was typical of the 40-year-old: maximum self-criticism and clear words
After just a few seconds, Neuer made a momentous mistake that led directly to Arda Güler going behind early on. After the game, the veteran was his usual self-critical self: „I actually wanted to play to Stani on the outside, but I’m not hitting him well at all,“ he explained the scene in an interview with DAZN – and was even clearer: „It was just a pig’s ball from me.“
But it wasn’t the mistake that was decisive – it was the team’s reaction. And it was precisely here that Neuer saw the greatest progress compared to previous seasons. „I think we stuck to our game despite that,“ emphasised the Bayern captain. Despite the early shock, the record champions didn’t let themselves be rattled, but remained true to their line

Especially in the tight phases around the penalty area, they consciously focused on control: „We also tried to be ball-safe around the box, to have few ball losses there and to simply wait for our chances.“
This patience paid off as Bayern fought back, equalized late on and finally turned the game around completely. For Neuer, it was clear: „And we did that very late on, you have to say, with the 3:3 and then the 4:3.“
In the end, the keeper drew a clear conclusion: „Nevertheless, we deserved to win!“
The dramatic evening in the Allianz Arena was therefore not only another great Champions League moment – but also a clear signal: this Bayern team has grown and is ready to reach for the very top in Europe.
