Looking ahead to next summer’s transfer window it does seem that Manchester City will need to bolster their midfield. Mateo Kovacic has barely played this season due to injury. Rodri is yet to return to full fitness, although that was to be expected due to the injury he suffered last season. Nico has stepped into Rodri’s role but he does need support. Bernardo Silva is in the final year of his contract and there are doubts over his future at City.
A new midfielder seems likely to be on Manchester City’s summer wish list. A new report indicates that City are prepared to move to sign Nottingham Forest’s England international Elliot Anderson. Anderson will fill a hole in Manchester City’s midfield that needs to be filled.
Craig Hope has reported for the Daily Mail that Manchester City are ready to make Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson one of their top summer transfer targets. Furthermore, Hope reports that Nottingham Forest will not sell Anderson during the upcoming January transfer window. It is believed that Forest is hoping to sell Elliot Anderson for £100 million. Hope reports that Premier League executives believe that Anderson could be sold for £80 million.
Craig Hope further reports that Hugo Viana and Pep Guardiola are big admirers of Elliott Anderson as a player. Manchester City have also sent scouts to watch the England international in action. Lastly, Craig Hope reports that Liverpool and Manchester United have an interest in signing one of Nottingham Forest’s most important players.
Manchester City do need fresh legs in midfield. There are doubts over the futures of Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic. Bernardo Silva is entering the final stages of his current contract and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he left City after such stellar service. Mateo Kovacic had surgery on an Achilles issue and that surgery has hindered him this season. Given the age and doubts that surround the future of Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic, it is easy to see where the hole in Manchester City’s midfield could be at the end of the season.
Manchester City need a player to step into the void that would exist if one of, or both, Mateo Kovacic and Bernardo Silva left the club next summer. Elliot Anderson would do exactly that. Since signing for Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United, Anderson has established himself as one of the premier midfielders in the Premier League. Everything about Elliot Anderson’s game screams a City player. He can play as a number six or a number eight in midfield. Anderson is technically gifted and has a wide and complete range of passing. He gets up and down the pitch well and is tough in a challenge and duel and reads the game exceptionally well. The England international would be a quality addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad if City could sign him from Nottingham Forest.
Manchester City have seemingly identified their top midfield target for next summer. That player is Elliot Anderson. There looks like there could be a hole in Manchester City’s midfield to fill next summer and Elliot Anderson is the ideal player to fill it based on his strengths as a player.
