"A very difficult moment" – VfL Wolfsburg release statement after Bundesliga relegation | OneFootball

After their relegation from the Bundesliga was confirmed following a 2-1 extra-time playoff defeat to SC Paderborn on Monday, VfL Wolfsburg have issued a club statement.

In the brief message, the club expressed regret over their first-ever Bundesliga relegation, thanked the fans and appealed for continued unity.

“The relegation of our men’s team from the Bundesliga is a very difficult moment – for our fans, employees, partners, and for everyone who carries this wonderful football club in their hearts. Coming to terms with it is hard for us, and finding the right words even harder,” the statement read.

"This season, our team has fallen short in almost every respect. We failed to achieve our objectives and must now face the consequences.

"We would like to thank our fans. For your support – at home, away, and in the many moments when we gave very little back in return. This loyalty is not something we take for granted. Your support is first-class and worthy of the Bundesliga.

“For decades, VfL Wolfsburg has stood for the close bond between the company, the city, and the club. It is exactly this unity that will now be crucial once again. We will draw the necessary conclusions, analyze the season honestly, and do everything we can to regain trust step by step.”

VfL Wolfsburg have been in the Bundesliga since the 1996/97 season.
