“A very good solution”: Eberl raves about Klopp—with one caveat | OneFootball

Jürgen Klopp has been the German national team coach since this summer. Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, thinks highly of the former BVB coach and praises his charisma.

A new era began at the DFB this summer with Jürgen Klopp. The 59-year-old took over the German national team after the World Cup and is tasked with getting the DFB squad back on track following a disappointing tournament.

At FC Bayern, the new national team coach’s work is naturally being followed with particular attention. After all, the German record champions, with their numerous national team players, form a key part of the DFB squad.

Max Eberl has known Klopp for many years. The two most recently met at FC Bayern’s Bundesliga match against VfB Stuttgart. In an interview with Sport BILD, Bayern’s sporting director spoke about his relationship with the new national team coach: “I spoke with him at the stadium when he was there for our game against VfB Stuttgart. I’ve always had a very pleasant, though not particularly close, relationship with Kloppo. But when we see each other, we’re happy to see one another. I respect him. It’s fun to talk with him.”

Eberl has high hopes for Klopp at the DFB

Eberl is convinced that the former Liverpool coach is the right choice for the German national team: “He’s a very good solution for German soccer. He’s a figure who can lead the way. But he alone won’t be able to smooth everything over.”

The fact that Klopp previously coached Bayern’s archrival, Borussia Dortmund, and won two German championships with BVB no longer plays a decisive role, in Eberl’s view.

“The Bayern network that Jürgen can rely on in the future is very large, but of course: Jürgen Klopp did an outstanding job for BVB. Unfortunately, as Bayern Munich, we have to acknowledge that. But his focus is on German soccer. And that’s why he’s watching very closely what’s happening at FC Bayern,” Eberl said.

For Klopp, keeping an eye on Munich is likely to remain particularly important in the coming months. With Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Tom Bischof, and other candidates, numerous Bayern pros are in the national team’s extended squad.

Jonas Urbig could also play a role down the road. In the same interview, Eberl attested to the young goalkeeper’s “extremely great potential” and described him as a possible future DFB goalkeeper.
